Die erträumte Nation
The Rebirth of Greece in the 19. century
Published by Reinhard Heydenreuter, Jan
Murken and Raimund Wünsche.
A multitude of articles enlighten the character of European Philhellenism,
the part played by art and science, and in particular of the Bavarian
administration and Regency in the early years of the newly established
Greek Kingdom under Otto I. Particular mention is made of the series
of watercolours by Köllnberger, a Bavarian soldier, from Munich's
main State Archives, which give a naïve view of the different Greek
countrysides, the simple life of the people and the frugal existence
of the soldiers. The whole series of these watercolours are shown
for the first time and in colour.
The book also serves as a catalogue for a number of exhibitions.
