STUDIES ON ANTIQUE PAINTING AND USE OF COLOR III
Nadia J. Koch, De picturae initiis. Über die Anfänge
der Malerei im 7. Jh. v. Chr.
With the aid of the basic techniques of line, area /surface and
colour developed in the Peripatos, and of remaining paintings from
the 7th Century B.C. on terracotta and stone, the composition principles
and procedures of early Greek coloured painting are examined. A
new interpretation of the antique written sources and modern technical
tests prove the origins of antique surface painting as early as
the 7th Century B.C. Comprehensive colour reconstructions summarise
the extremely detailed analysis and permit a sensuous impression
of the lost technology.
