1768 Europa à la grecque – Vasen machen Mode

Published by Martin Flashar, with collaboration of Gerhard Hiesel and Reiner Vollkommer.

1768 represents a milestone in early research on Greek vases, and in particular shows their influence on contemporary art tastes and fashions in Europe. 1768 discusses the publications on the two vase collections of Sir William Hamilton through F. d'Hancarville and J. Tischbein. In particular the hand-coloured work of prints became a book of sample designs for porcelain manufacturers, the furniture industry, painters and interior decorators. 1768 shows in the example of Count zu Erbach-Erbach what was a matter of course for European aristocrats of the 18th Century: During their educational journeys through Italy they picked up all the contemporary fashions. 1768 presents for the first time the architectural furnishing concept of the Etrutic Cabinet in the Potsdam Stadtschloss Palace, in a descriptive analysis(1804).. 1768 introduces the almost unknown but very influential piece written by Karl Friedrich Schinkel "Design samples for manufacturers and craftsmen"(1821).
