Hubertus von Pilgrim, Das Mahnmal zur Erinnerung an den Todesmarsch

The book deals with the courageous attempt of at first one and later
more than one community to errect a memorial, commemorating the
Todesmarsch of the prisoners from the Konzentrationslager Dachau
to Bad Tölz in the last days of world war II.
After a public contest, the munich sculptor Hubertus von Pilgrim
was choosen to create the memorial in 1989. At first the memorial
was refused and controversal discussed, but in the last twelve years
twenty communities on the way of the Todesmarsch accepted the memorial.
As an appreciation of this unparalleled project one of the bronze
sculptures was also errected at Yad Vashem in 1992.
The impressive photographies by Hubertus von Pilgrim are accompanied
by an introduction of the sculptor, a historical description by
Barbara Distel, the manager of the KZ -Gedenkstätte Dachau,
poems by Solly Ganor and Joachim Brinkmann and a story by Friedrich
Hitzer.
