Since the 4th Century B.C. the use of pedestals and partial cannelation of the columns for Roman and modern column architecture are a gain, which is made visible through interpretation of the individual phenomenon in the architectural context. Particular kinds of column ornaments are employed, reflections of monumental architecture in small artworks are analysed and the influence of both forms right up to modern times is followed up.
