Sixteen roman private portaits from the Berlin Antikensammlung can be seen in the Archäologische Sammlung of the Universität Freiburg until 2003. The heads of men, women and children are dated from about 50 B.C. to 450 A.D.. They are shown in Freiburg, because the roman department of the Altes Museum on the Spree island in Berlin has been closed temporarily. The Freiburg exhibition is supported by pieces from the Universitätsmuseum Freiburg and some private collections.
The catalogue documents every single portrait with more than one illustration. Each Head is described and analyzed with a special focus on the time-specific style. Some of the pieces are published for the first time.
