Winckelmann Bibliography
This bibliography is published by the Winckelmann
Society Stendal. It is a subject catalogue on the writings of
Johann Joachim Winckelmann and secondary literature since the 18th
century.
The Winckelmann Research Library in Stendal, Germany is the only
specialised library on the subject of Winckelmann which does not
only consist of first edi-tions, later prints and translations of
his work, but also contains all the secondary literature on Winckelmann
and his scientific environment.
Right from the earliest years after its foundation the Winckelmann-Gesellschaft
(Winckelmann Society) turned to research on the international Winckelmann
bibliography. Four editions were published. Parallel to this the
library was systematically expanded. The great advantage of the
Winckelmann Research Library is its interdisciplinary character
that makes it equally inter- esting for archaeologists, art historians
and German scholars.
The available CD unites all the previously published printed bibliography
and the latest Winckelmann literature up to 1998. Therefore it summarises
the complete Winckelmann literature since 1755 under keywords.
The database has been available on CD-ROM since January 2000 and
is accompanied by a printed manual. (german only)
